Supporting element for Patungan
Brass & Textile
Unan I is a linear supporting element designed to lift and steady objects placed on Patungan. Formed from a brass channel with a textile layer sandwiched within, it introduces both structure and softness to the surface.
Its form draws from the logic of the sadag—the long body pillow placed between the legs for support during rest. Like the sadag, Unan I functions as an intermediary: absorbing pressure, redistributing weight, and allowing the body—or in this case, an object—to settle more naturally.
The brass establishes a firm line; the textile provides a point of contact. Together, they create elevation without rigidity. At three inches in width, Unan I maintains presence while remaining secondary to the surface it supports.
Unan I belongs to dala-dala, where care is enacted through small, repetitive gestures, and to ala-ala, where domestic habits shape memory. Used individually or in multiples, it offers quiet stabilization rather than enclosure.
Brass channel
Textile insert, sandwiched construction
Hand-finished
Subtle variation in textile and patina is inherent to the process.
